HISTORIC COCOA VILLAGE
Historic Cocoa Village is located on the beautiful Indian River and is located in the, restored downtown district of Cocoa, Florida While touring the tree-lined streets of Cocoa; you will see a number of homes and buildings that are listed on the National Historic Register, some dating back to the 1800´s. One of the most historic pieces of real estate in the city is the Porcher House built in 1916. The Porcher family was the largest citrus grower in Brevard County and also the first to wash, inspect and grade their citrus. Steamboats sailed up and down the river selling oranges from the Porcher´s orange groves.
The Cocoa Village Playhouse is located in the heart of Cocoa Village. It was originally, in 1918, a car dealership. The first playhouse, named the Alladin Theatre, was built on this site in 1924. The Alladin Theatre was replaced by the Sparks State Theater in 1936 and the Fine Arts Theatre in the 1960´s. Finally in 1975, the Cocoa Village Playhouse was built. This playhouse has produced exceptional Broadway productions which are staffed by local volunteers. These productions rival those seen on Broadway do to the level of talented actors, dancers, and singers in the Brevard County area.
