Although best known as the place of the NASA space launches, the city of Cape Canaveral, FL sees itself as just a safe, clean, tree lined residential beach community with pristine beaches, fabulous fishing, and great golfing.
Located at the northern tip of a barrier island nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River, Cape Canaveral, Florida is a big part of the retirement, resort, vacation and recreation wonderland that makes Brevard County what is is today.
Because of the exceptional weather, there is always plenty to do. For those that love to deep sea fish, the Canaveral Charter Captains Association can provide you with almost everything you need. Just bring your hat, sunscreen and snacks.
For the golfer, The Savannahs Golf Club is one of the most challenging courses on the Space Coast. Located just minutes away on Merritt Island,FL this par 72 championship course winds its way through forests and water hazards throughout its 6,507 yards.
The City of Cape Canaveral Parks and Recreation Department organizes and operates all recreation facilities throughout the city with neighborhood parks throughout the town. For locale residents, the Cape Canaveral, Florida Recreational Complex has tennis courts, racquetball courts, and shuffleboard available year round with open play, tournaments, and organized leagues. They also offer special interest classes like karate for kids, line dancing, yoga, jazzercise, bridge and more.
For beach activities and surf fishing, the Cherie Down Park is a beach park with 7 acres of sand dunes and sea grasses and the Jetty Park is a favorite for watching shuttle launches and fishing off the pier.
With the Kennedy Space Center to the north and Patrick Air Force Base to the south, it makes Cape Canaveral, FL the center of Americas space facilities. The Space Center is a great place to learn all about the story of NASAs exploration of space. They have interactive exhibits, movies and tours. See mock-ups of a space habitat module, a full size replica of a space shuttle orbiter and much more.
The city has buses and a trolley that runs from Port Canaveral, Florida to the north down to Cocoa Beach, FL which has shopping, restaurants, and nightclubs. But you don't need to go to Cocoa Beach, Florida for a great meal. The Mangroves located in Cape Canaveral, Florida is fine dining with the flavor of Florida and the Grills Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar in Port Canaveral has casual dining on the waterfront. You've just got to try their award winning clam chowder.
